Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the resistance to chipping and smoothness of a multi-layer topcoat to be formed on an electrodeposition surface by successively applying a first coloring topcoating, a second coloring topcoating, and a clear coating. SOLUTION: A method for forming a multi-layer topcoat by successively coating, on a cationic electrodeposition surface, a first coloring topcoating, a second coloring topcoating, and a clear coating, wherein the first coloring topcoating is a color coating which uses, as the resin component, (1) a mixture of a hydroxyl group-containing resin and a melamine resin or (2) a mixture of a carboxyl group-containing resin and an epoxy group-containing resin and contains not less than 0.5 pt.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. resin solids content, of a scaly pigment.
