Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low fuel consumption spark ignition engine stably and quickly combusting uniform fuel-air mixture having an air-fuel ratio A/F greatly larger (lean) than the theoretical air-fuel ratio A/F=14.7, for example the air- fuel ratio A/F=30 in the whole operation range of the engine. SOLUTION: This low fuel consumption spark ignition engine is constituted of an intake manifold 4 feeding the uniform and lean fuel-air mixture 2c from a supercharger at all times, a multi-ignition type ignition system 8, and a dedicated lean 3-way catalytic converter 9. The multi-ignition type system 8 is provided with multiple ignition gaps 13, etc.
