To provide a wireless communication apparatus capable of enhancing security while lessening a management burden by performing authentication using an authentication server when a wireless link is established between access points in a wireless ad hoc network system.

The wireless communication apparatus functioning as an access point constituting a wireless ad hoc network system comprises a section for confirming a connection state with an authentication server, a section for notifying the connection state with the authentication server to a neighboring access point, and a section performing the execution control of authentication processing by selecting either of the authenticating side or the side to be authenticated based on the connection state of its own access point and the neighboring access point with the authentication server when the neighboring access point is detected.
