To provide a vehicle steering device which is insensitive to power supply voltage fluctuations or the like, and can promptly bring an absolute steering angle of a steering member into agreement with a rudder angle of a tire at the time of startup.
The vehicle steering device is provided with a steering mechanism 1 separated from the steering member 2 and a rotary encoder 22. The rotary encoder detects the absolute steering angle from a midpoint at the time of the travelling of the steering member 2 in a straight line, each midpoint of each of the N turn in the right and left from the midpoint, and a steering angle. Then a steering motor M1 of the steering device for the vehicle is driven so that the absolute steering angle and a rudder angle of the steering mechanism 1 are in agreement with each other. When the midpoint is detected by an absolute steering angle sensor 24, which outputs a voltage signal in accordance with an absolute steering angle of the steering member 2, and the rotary encoder 22, a midpoint is pinpointed based on the voltage signal of the absolute steering angle sensor 24. Then the midpoint of the absolute steering angle and the midpoint of the rudder angle are corrected to agree with each other based on the pinpointed midpoint and the rudder angle of the steering mechanism 1 corresponding to the midpoint. Then the relationship between the corrected absolute steering angle and the corrected rudder angle is stored.
