To provide an image data creation method capable of solving a problem in association with projection transformation and creating an artificial image model to be used for pattern matching, especially, solving a problem in an image processing system which uses a stereo optical system for performing three-dimensional measurement and creating an image model with influences by projection distortion.

The method is an image data creation method for obtaining image data of a target figure for pattern matching. In order to obtain image data of a projection image to be projected to an image plane of an image pickup camera when images of the target figure and its periphery are picked up by an image pickup camera provided at a specified position, an image pickup position parameter of the image pickup camera is used to projection transform the images of the target figure and its periphery onto the image plane and projection transformed image data are obtained.
