Abstract:

To obtain a method for obtaining an aromatic dihydroxy compound from a waste aromatic polycarbonate, comprising hydrolyzing and treating the waste aromatic polycarbonate, by which the highly pure and easily handleable aromatic dihydroxy compound can be obtained.

The method for obtaining the aromatic dihydroxycompound from the waste aromatic polycarbonate comprises (A) a process (process a) for subjecting the waste aromatic polycarbonate to a solvolysis reaction by an ester interchange reaction in the presence of a 1 to 4C alcohol, a chlorinated compound organic solvent and an alkali metal hydroxide, (B) a process (process b) for adding an acid aqueous solution to the reaction solution after the solvolysis reaction to separate an organic solvent layer from an aqueous solution phase, and recovering the organic solvent phase, (C) a process (process c) for distilling the organic solvent phase to separate the organic solvent and a dialkyl carbonate from the aromatic dihydroxy compound, thus obtaining the aromatic dihydroxy compound having a residual solvent content of 5 to 25 wt.%, and (D) a process (process d) for washing the obtained aromatic dihydroxy compound having the residual solvent content of 5 to 25 wt.% with the chlorinated compound organic solvent and/or water.
