To provide a recorder capable of selecting whether an actual broadcast program is recorded with standard image quality or high image quality by viewing the actual broadcast program, and of efficiently recording program broadcast data of image quality allowing a user to be satisfied therewith.
In an HDD recorder 100, a first recording means records broadcast program data received by a tuner 6 with first image quality; a conversion means converts the broadcast program data recorded by the first recording means to second image quality lower than the first image quality; a second recording means records the broadcast program data converted to the second image quality; a reproduction means reproduces the broadcast program data converted to the second image quality; a selection means lets the user select either of the broadcast program data of the first image quality recorded by the first recording means and the broadcast program data of the second image quality recorded by the second recording means; and a deletion means deletes the broadcast program data of the first image quality or the broadcast program data of the second image quality.
