To provide bottom sediment detection system capable of exactly estimating bottom sediment, using a multi-beam method.
The bottom sediment detection system acquires water depth data DP and reflection intensity data DR from ultrasonic reflection signals (S1) received, removes the effect of the water depth from the actually measured reflection intensity data DR and calculates reflection intensity data SSA, leaving only the effect of reflection area (S2). Then, the bottom sediment detection system calculates the normal vector of the sea-bottom surface corresponding to the reflection intensity data SSA and calculates the incidence angle of the ultrasonic wave signal and the reflection area S(A) of the sea-bottom surface (S5 to S6). The bottom sediment detection system calculates reflection intensity data SS in a complementary angle direction from the reflection intensity data SSA and reflection area S(A) and converts into reflection intensity data SS90 in the normal direction (S7 to S8). Then, the bottom sediment detection system estimates the bottom sediment from the reflection intensity data SS in the normal direction (S10).
