To provide a method for producing a large amount of industrially useful nanocarbons, by an improved process by the application and modification of heat decomposition of saccharides and using a metal nanoparticle-carbon composite as a precursor.
The method gives a metal nanoparticle-carbon composites by introducing a solution of a polar solvent prepared from a mixture of a metal-containing compound and a carbon-containing compound selected from saccharides or their derivatives, or their solution, or their dispersion or the mixture either dropwisely or in the form of atomized micro-particles into a gas phase reaction atmosphere at the temperature of 300-2,000°C or preferably 500-1,000°C under the gauge pressure of -100-200 kPa and also simultaneously by introducing an inactive gas or oxygen to carry out thermal decomposition, wherein the metal particles are practically uniformly dispersed in a carbon material, and metal particles have metal particle diameter of 0.5-50 nm measured by XRD method. Further this method can be suitably used for producing nanocarbons effectively at a low cost by using the above as a precursor.
