The nonaqueous solvent-based secondary battery is equipped with a positive electrode having a positive electrode material reversely storing/releasing at least lithium, a negative electrode having a negative electrode material reversely storing/releasing lithium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and a cyclic acid anhydride is contained in the nonaqueous electrolyte and carbon dioxide is made to exist dissolvedly in the electrolyte. As the acid anhydride, succinic anhydride, methyl succinic anhydride, 2,2-dimethyl succinic anhydride, glutaric anhydride, maleic anhydride, citraconic anhydride, glutaconic anhydride, itaconic anhydride, diglycolic anhydride, cyclohexane dicarboxylic anhydridee, 4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicalboxylic anhydride, 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, 5-norbornen-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride, phenyl succinic anhydride, anhydrous nonenyl succinic acid, or the like, can be used.
