To provide a network scanner and a network scanning method, wherein a scan operation condition, a file transfer destination, and the like are stored in a detachable type record medium, and a user only connects the record medium and depresses a start button, whereby image data is read under a desired operation condition and an image file is transferred to a desired transfer destination.

In the network scanner 100, a file controller reads the scan operation condition and the file transfer destination from an external record medium 150, and an image reader 107 reads the image data of a manuscript based on the scan operation condition read by the file controller. The image file corresponding to the read image data is transferred to the file transfer destination read by the file controller through a network IF101.
