To provide a light source device and a video display device using the same made in a simple and compact structure without giving rise to deterioration of light-taking-in efficiency and enabled to firmly fix an opaque base material reflector to an arc tube and perform fastening and fastening volume control.

The light source device is provided with an arc tube (4) equipped with a light-emitting part (5) and an electrode sealing part (7), and a reflector (1) reflecting irradiation light from the arc tube (4) and equipped with an arc tube retaining part (3) retaining the arc (4). The reflector (1), made of an opaque base material, is fixed to the electrode sealing part (7) of the arc tube (4) by having a fastening material filled in its arc tube retaining part (3). The device is also provided with a slit (8a) or a through-hole (8b) at a light-emitting part side of the arc tube retaining part (3) of the reflector (1).
