To provide a shift lever device capable of embodying the device in a smaller size.

The shift lever device is configured so that a plurality of plates 21-26 to block a guide hole 2 provided in a housing 1 for guiding a shift lever 10 are coupled with the housing 1 with possibility of displacement between the blocking and opening positions and that a spring to energize the plates 21-26 in the direction of blocking the hole is installed in the coupling part of the guide hole 2 and the plates 21-26, wherein the plates 21-26 are maintained by the spring in such a condition as blocking the guide hole 2. The plates 21-26 are pressed by the shift lever in movement and open the hole one after another against the energizing force of the spring.
