Abstract:
To prevent caries by inhibiting plaque formation by inhibiting the activity of glucosyltransferase produced by Streptococcus mutans.
The subject glycosyltransferase inhibitor contains 0.001 to 10 wt.% (as a dry product) at least one water and/or ethyl alcohol extract selected from the group consisting of an extract from stamina of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn., an extract from Brasenia schreberi J.F.Gmel, and an extract from Apocynum venetum L. This inhibitor is used as a plaque formation inhibitor or an anti-caries agent. More particularly, it is used in the form of dentifrice, mouthwash, troche, chewing gum, and the like, usually used in fields of foods, cosmetics, quasi-drugs, and medicines.
