To provide a material soundness evaluation device using a fiber excellent in detection sensitivity using an ultrasonic wave and AE detection as an ultrasonic propagation path.
This material soundness evaluation device comprising a piezoelectric ultrasonic oscillator 4, the ultrasonic guide optical fiber 2 with one end attached to the piezoelectric ultrasonic oscillator 4, and a measuring means for measuring a propagation situation of the ultrasonic wave transmitted to a specimen 5, the piezoelectric ultrasonic oscillator 4 transmits the generated ultrasonic wave by the ultrasonic guide optical fiber 2, the ultrasonic guide optical fiber 2 is attached to an inside or a surface of the specimen 5 with one portion serving as a soundness evaluation object, the ultrasonic wave is transmitted to the specimen 5, the measuring means inspects the presence of existence of a defect in the specimen 5, based on the propagation situation of the ultrasonic wave.
