To provide a vibration damping method for a structure, and a vibration damping system, achieving high vibration damping performance, and high reliability, in which constitution of a control system is easy.
This vibration damping system 1 for a structure is provided with an translation actuator 3 and a rotation actuator 4 at a base end part of the structure 2 in a rod shape. On a tip part of the structure 2 in the rod shape, a sensor 5 is installed. In the translation actuator 3, a tip part is extended/contracted in X-axis directions, so that X-axis direction vibration is inputted to the structure 2.
