To provide a method and an apparatus for determining power source classification, and a power source apparatus capable of determining classification of a battery with a high accuracy.
In addition to a main microcomputer 14, a sub-microcomputer 18 is provided. The sub-microcomputer 18 is initiated when a battery 26 is inserted and measures a voltage at roughly no load to store it. When a power source switch 22 is turned on, the main microcomputer 14 is initiated and measures voltages at light load and heavy load. The main microcomputer 14 obtains the voltage at the no load from the sub-microcomputer 18, and calculates a difference between the voltages at the no load and the light load, and a difference between the voltages at the no load and the heavy load. The main microcomputer 14 determines a classification of the battery 26 with reference to those differences and the voltage at the no load. A lithium battery and an exhausted nickel-hydrogen battery can be accurately distinguished.
