SOLUTION: This surfactant is represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R1 denotes a chain hydrocarbon group; AO denotes an oxyalkylene group; X denotes H or a group represented by general formula (2) (wherein, R2 denotes a chain hydrocarbon group) and n denotes an integer of >=1] and a method for producing the surfactant is provided.
