To efficiently apply data compression to an electronic certificate with respect to a certificate compressing apparatus.
In the certificate compressing apparatus, a field identifying section 12 divides an electronic certificate inputted via a certificate data input 11 per field, and sequentially identifies of the type of each field. Subsequently, a data storing unit 14 selects a storing method decided for each identified field from a storing pattern storage unit 13, and sequentially stores the data about the field in a data storage region corresponding to the ID of the field on the basis of the selected storing method. Then, a certificate registering unit 15 registers a certificate data storing table corresponding to the electronic certificate into a certificate storage unit instead of the inputted electronic certificate.
