To provide an evaluation apparatus and method with a simple structure, capable of correctly measuring and evaluating performance of various radio tags.
A radio tag evaluation apparatus comprises a transmission means 10 to provide a frequency signal including an inquiry signal to a radio tag 2, a transmission antenna 3 which is placed on one side of the radio tag 2 placed and supported around the center of an anechoic box 1 and which is for transmitting the inquiry signal from the transmission means 10, a receiving antenna 4 placed on the other side of the radio tag 2, and a receiving means 12 which is connected to the receiving antenna 4 and analyzes a response signal. The transmission antenna 3 and the receiving antenna 4 are placed orthogonally to each other, and the primary face of the radio tag 2 is placed substantially at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the transmission antenna 3. Then, the receiving antenna 4 is unable to directly receive a transmission radio wave 21 which passes around the radio tag 2. Consequently, a response signal 30 emitted from the radio tag 2 can be relatively strongly received.
