To provide a communication system for transmitting information which is present in a hierarchy lower than the designated hierarchy of a memory area while suppressing the consumption of a memory.
A personal digital assistant(PDA) 100 which requests the transmission of information and an IC chip 200 which transmits information stored in a memory area in response to this request are connected to a communication system 10. An information acquisition requesting part 111 of the PDA 100 designates the predetermined area of the memory area, and transmits an information acquisition request. A storage part 231 of an IC chip 200 divides the memory area into a plurality of areas having a hierarchical structure, and stores area information showing each of the divided areas and service information showing the position of a service. A selection part 241 selects the area information or the service information of the storage part 231 stored in the hierarchy below the designated area in accordance with the information acquisition request. A communication part 251 transmits the selected information to the PDA 100.
