To provide a method and an apparatus for the maintenance of a tundish which can simplify the work for removing residual steel slag from inside of the tundish, improved its workability, and shorten the removal work.
The residual steel slag 12 is removed by cooling and solidifying the slag 12 by jetting an air-water mixture 13 into the tundish 10 in the state that high-temperature residual steel slag 12 is present in the bottom portion 11 of the tundish 10 after the completion of continuous casting. In addition, a maintenance apparatus 17 of the tundish has a plurality of air-water nozzles 14, and can individually control the amount of the air-water mixture jetted from the respective air-water nozzles 14.
