Abstract:

To provide a negative dispersion optical fiber and the like that simultaneously reduce cumulative dispersion in the wavelength band of an optical fiber having a positive wavelength dispersion characteristic in the 1,310 and 1,550 nm wavelength band.

The negative dispersion optical fiber is obtained having a suitable negative wavelength dispersion characteristic in the 1,310 and 1,550 nm wavelength band. Specifically, the ratio D1,310/D1,550of the wavelength dispersion in the 1,310 and 1,550 nm wavelength band and the ratio D1,625/D1,550of the wavelength dispersion in the 1,625 and 1,550 nm wavelength band are each set in the range of 0.3-0.6 and 1.1-1.2 respectively. Also, the ratio of the radius a1 of a first core part to the radius (a) of a second core part Ra=a1/a is set in the range of 0.24 to 0.70; the ratio of a relative refractive index difference Δ1 of the second core part to the clad to a relative refractive index difference Δ of the first core part to the clad RΔ=Δ1/Δ is set in the range of -0.13 to -1.73; and the radius (a) of the second core part and relative refractive index difference Δ of the first core part is set in the range of 2.3-6.0 μm and 0.3-1.5%, respectively.
