Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is difficult to reduce the size of an optical transmission device since the optical receiving device and the optical transmitting device are separate and two optical fibers are used. SOLUTION: At predetermined places on the top face of one base substrate 16 having through hole electrodes 17, a light emitting chip (LED 7 or LD) and a photo detecting chip (IC 12) are so disposed that a light emitting face of the light emitting chip and a light detecting face of the photo detecting chip are opposite to each other. Nearly at the center between these chips, a prism- like reflection member (reflection mirror 18) is disposed to change the direction of the light, with the reflection mirror 18 serving for a light shielding wall to prevent interference of light between the chips. A block (metal or plastic block) 19 is submounted on the rear face of each of the LED 7 and the IC 12. An optical transmission path 21 of a transmitting and receiving device 15 is sealed by a lens 22 (glass or plastic). Consequently, a small-size and low-cost single-core two-way surface-mounted optical transmission device can be realized.
