Abstract:

To provide a fuel cell system in which, at the time of shutdown of idling, power generation stability is ensured and hydrogen exhaustion quantity is reduced, and to provide a method for controlling the fuel cell system.

The fuel cell system S includes a fuel cell 3 which generates electric power by supplying oxidant gas to a cathode side of the fuel cell 3 and fuel gas to an anode side of the fuel cell 3, a hydrogen tank 6 which supplies the fuel gas to the fuel cell 3, an isolation valve 61a for opening and closing a fuel gas supply passage 61, a compressor 5 for supplying the oxidant gas to the fuel cell 3, and an idling stop method for stopping the power generation of the fuel cell 3 by shutting down the compressor 5 when the fuel cell 3 is in a state of idling. The fuel cell system 3 is so configured that it has a timing determination means for determining a timing that the isolation valve 61a is closed when the fuel cell 3 is in a state of shutdown of idling, and a valve closing means for closing the isolation valve 61a at the timing determined by the timing determination means.
