To suppress luminance difference by stroboscopic light emission for relaxation of red-eye effects in image signals for one screen generated in light emission of flash for relaxation of the red-eye effects.
This imaging apparatus is provided with: an image pickup device 8 which has a plurality of pixels, performs photoelectric conversion to a subject image by the plurality of pixels to output the subject image as the image signals for one screen; a stroboscopic light emission tube 19 which emits light for relax the red-eye effects of the subject image; an electronic shutter controller 15 which outputs electronic shutter pulses for reading the plurality of pixels corresponding to the image signals for one screen and sequentially resetting them at timing different for every line; a reading pulse controller 16 which outputs electric charge reading pulses for reading the image signals for one screen from the plurality of pixels corresponding to the image signals for one screen and sequentially reading the image signals at timing different for every line and a microcomputer 12 which adjusts timing of the light emission by the stroboscopic light emission tube 19 according to accumulation time from output of the electronic shutter pulses to output of the electric charge reading pulses.
