To provide a method and apparatus for synthesizing multiple images which can obtain a highly accurate motion vector with a small operation amount.

The image synthesizing means 5 obtains similarity between an acquired image and a stored image subjected to position correction with candidates of individual motion vectors for each processing unit consisting of one or more pixels on the image to evaluate the motion vector candidates. If evaluation of any of the motion vector candidates cannot meet predetermined conditions, the means 5 executes synthesizing using pixel values of the any acquired image in the processing unit, and if the evaluation meets the predetermined conditions, the means 5 executes synthesizing with pixel values of the acquired image and pixel values of the stored image subjected to position correction by a candidate of a motion vector having the highest evaluation.
