Abstract:

This fuel cell 1 having an electrolyte membrane 10 exhibiting proton conductivity in an appropriate wet condition is provided with the water-retaining layer 11 capable of retaining water so as to prevent a battery voltage from falling below a lower limit voltage until a residual water volume ΔQ defined by subtracting a decrease volume Q_ represented by a water volume drained to the outside from an increase volume Q+ represented by the sum of at least a water volume introduced per unit time and a produced water volume from power generation start is set below zero.
