To provide a synchronous motor which can improve an output and efficiency without increasing vibration and noise.
A rotor 20 of the synchronous motor is recessed inside at its magnetic pole center 3, gradually increased in thickness in the radial direction at both sides of the magnetic pole center 3 within a prescribed range as the thickness is apart from the magnetic pole center 3, increased in thickness to a maximum at both the sides 4 of the magnetic pole center, and gradually decreased in thickness in the radial direction toward both ends of a magnet 1 from both the sides 4 of the magnetic pole center. The distribution of surface magnetic flux density also becomes maximum at both the sides 4 of the magnetic pole center where the thickness becomes largest. In the synchronous motor comprising the rotor 20 of the synchronous motor having the number of magnetic poles of p (even number), and a stator having a winding of an n-phase (n is an integer number of two or more), the synchronous motor is characterized in that a harmonic component of an order of 1/2×p×n×m (m is an odd number) is included in an magnetic flux density waveform of an air gap of the synchronous motor.
