To maintain appropriate cylinder inside temperature irrespective of a clogging condition of a PM collecting means in relation to a control device for an internal combustion engine.
A filter 32 with a catalyst collecting PM is provided in an exhaust pipe 30. A low pressure exhaust gas reflux passage 38 is provided which is constructed to establish communication between the exhaust pipe 30 in a downstream of a turbine 22b of a turbocharger 22 and in a downstream of the filter 32 with the catalyst, and an intake pipe 14 in a downstream of a first intake throttle valve 20. A high pressure exhaust gas reflux passage 42 is provided which is constructed to establish communication between the exhaust pipe 30 in an upstream of the turbine 22b and the intake pipe 14 in a downstream of a second intake air throttle valve 26. A variable valve mechanism 48 is provided which variably controls open/close timing of an intake or exhaust valve. When degree of clogging of the filter 32 with the catalyst is relatively low, an actual compression ratio εis reduced. Also, when degree of clogging of the filter 32 with the catalyst is relatively high, internal EGR gas quantity is reduced further.
