Abstract:

A torque detector in which carrying performance can be enhanced when a plurality of pieces are carried while the overall profile is low, and an electric power steering system in which energy absorption stroke can be lengthened furthermore. The torque detector comprises a collection ring (5) arranged on the outer circumference on a magnetic circuit forming member provided in a rotator to which torque is applied and collecting magnetic flux, a section (6) for detecting torque applied to the rotator based on the density of magnetic flux collected by the collection ring (5), and a holding ring (7) having a portion fixed to a stationary object on the outer circumference. Opposite end faces in the axial direction of the holding ring (7) are substantially parallel and grooves for receiving a sealing ring are made in the opposite end faces at the fixing portion. Consequently, energy absorption stroke of an electric power steering system where a column capable of absorbing secondary impact energy is fixed to the housing (25) can be lengthened furthermore.
