Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for a negative electrode of a secondary battery, which permits providing a negative electrode for a nickel-hydrogen secondary battery good in adhesion of a negative electrode mix to a current collector and excellent in resistance to electrolyte and providing a secondary battery excellent in cycle properties upon assembly of the battery. SOLUTION: The binder for a negative electrode of a nickel-hydrogen secondary battery is composed of a copolymer latex obtained by emulsion- polymerizing 100 pts.wt. in total of a monomer mixture composed of 20-60 wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, 1-10 wt.% of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and 30-79 wt.% of any other monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of 0.6-3.0 pts.wt. of an α-methylstyrene dimer, and an amount of the α-methylstyrene dimer remaining in the copolymer latex is 400-3,000 ppm based on solids in the copolymer latex.
