To consistently execute initial firing after completing preheat control.
The preheat control is executed during the motoring of an internal combustion engine 10. In the preheat control, the return of high-temperature compressed air is jetted into an intake port 20 by opening and closing an intake valve 38 while an exhaust valve 40 is closed. In an intake stroke for initial explosion executed immediately before initial firing, the valve-opening timing of the intake valve 38 is advanced from the valve-opening timing during the preheat. Thus, in the intake stroke for the initial explosion, fuel injection can be executed after the return of the compressed air remaining in a combustion chamber 16 is weakened by preheat control. Thus, the jetted fuel can be consistently injected into the combustion chamber 16, and a misfire or the like can be prevented.
