Abstract:

To provide a rubbing cloth having all characteristics of high abrasion resistance, low antistatic properties, large orientation-restraining force and forming almost no scratch on an orientation membrane at rubbing.

The rubbing cloth for the orientation treatment contains a cellulose ester fiber which is a cellulose acetate propionate and/or cellulose acetate butyrate satisfying the following expressions (I) and (II): (I) 2.8≥DSace+DSacy≥2.0; and (II) 0.9>DSace/(DSace+DSacy)>0.5 (wherein, DSaceis an acetyl group substitution degree of a hydroxy group in the cellulose ester; and DSacyis the sum of a propionyl group substitution degree and a butyl group substitution degree of the hydroxy group in the cellulose ester).
