To realize an organic electroluminescence element with a lower driving voltage and a better driving stability in which a newly structured hole injection layer is formed so as to be in contact with a positive electrode layer, which can lower an energy barrier for holes injected from the positive electrode layer.
This element includes: a positive electrode layer; a negative electrode layer disposed facing the positive electrode layer; and a hole injection layer in contact with the positive electrode layer and at least one luminous layer both arranged between the positive electrode layer and negative electrode layer. At least either the positive electrode layer or the negative electrode layer is transparent. The hole injection layer functions as a damage reduction layer, and contains a mixture film of metal oxide and an organic compound. The mixture film is formed by vapor co-deposition.
