To provide a shaft for a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and its manufacturing method, excellent in dimensional accuracy and durability and achieving improved productivity and reduced cost by integrally fixing a shaft formed by a separate member and a sheave.
This shaft for a continuously variable transmission is formed by coupling a rod-like shaft portion 2 to a disk-shaped sheave portion 3 externally inserted into the shaft portion 2 through a plastic coupling portion 4 and a press-fitting portion 5. The sheave portion 3 has an insertion hole for inserting the shaft portion. The insertion hole is so arranges that a coupling inner surface portion and a press-fitting inner surface portion are axially arranged and the press-fitting inner surface portion is positioned on a side near to a sheave surface. The inner peripheral surface of the coupling inner surface portion is formed with a plurality of tooth portions having a tooth trace in an axial direction and also inwardly projecting. The shaft portion 2 has a coupling outer surface portion and a press-fitting outer surface portion which are axially arranged. The plastic coupling portion 4 with a part of the coupling outer surface portion subjected to plastic flow by biting the tooth portions in the coupling outer surface portion is formed, and also the press-fitting portion 5 with the press-fitting outer surface portion press-fitted to the press-fitting inner surface portion is formed.
