To solve the problem wherein it is difficult to hold a cardboard or a firm recording medium by winding it around a drum when forming an image while holding the recording medium with the drum.
The image forming apparatus is provided with: a recording head unit 11 provided with a recording head 12 in which a plurality of nozzles for discharging droplets are arranged side by side: a drum 10 for holding a recording medium 1 in which an image is formed with the recording head 12, on its circumferential surface and conveying the medium; and a conveyer belt 31 which is wound around at least two rollers 32 and 33 holding the recording medium 1 on their surfaces, and moves around them. The circumferential surface of the drum 10 and the front surface of the conveyer belt 31 are faced with each other, and thereby the recording medium is transferable between the drum 10 and the conveyer belt 31, so that an image can be formed on the recording medium in either a state of being held on the circumferential surface of the drum 10, or a state of being held on the front surface of the conveyer belt 31.
