To provide a metal refining method and a device by where high purity metal can be safely and efficiently refined without increasing the peripheral velocity of a cooling body and without providing a baffle at the inner circumferential face of a crucible.
In the metal refining method, the cooling body 2 is immersed into the molten metal 10 to be refined stored in a crucible 1, and while rotating the cooling body 2, a high purity metal is crystallized out over the surface of the cooling body 2. The refining is performed in such a manner that the shortest distance L1 between the inner circumferential face of the crucible 1 and the outer circumferential face of the cooling body 2 in the existing part of the molten metal 10 is set to ≤1/2 of the longest distance L2 between the inner circumferential face of the crucible 1 and the outer circumferential face of the cooling body 2.
