To display a high-quality three-dimensional image having high-resolution.

A display includes, on a side opposite to an observer side of a liquid crystal display panel 1, a light guide plate 8; first and second light emitting bodies 24, 25; first and second linear polarizing elements 26, 27 arranged so that respective transmission axes 26a, 27a are orthogonal with each other; a retarding element 28, in which a plurality of λ/2 retardation parts 29 and non-retardation parts 30 are alternately formed; and a lens array 31, emitting a light beam transmitted through the λ/2 retardation parts 29 to a first emission direction and emitting a light beam transmitted through the non-retarding parts 30 to a second emission direction. By the lighting of the first and second light-emitting bodies 24, 25, linearly polarized light beams having mutually orthogonal relations are emitted in the right-and left-eye directions of a display observer through the liquid crystal display panel 1.
