To provide an information processing apparatus that can accurately recognize characters enclosed with outer frames without advance registration of character patterns of circle/square-enclosed composite characters in a dictionary, and to provide a character recognition method, a character recognition program and a computer-readable recording medium with a character recognition program recorded.
The information processing apparatus includes: a character segmentation part 7 for segmenting a rectangular image corresponding to a single character from a character string image; a character shape determination part 8 for determining whether or not the character shape in the rectangular image matches a predetermined type of outer frame shape according to the distribution of white and black pixels in the segmented rectangular image; a frame removal part 9 for removing the outer frame of the character in the rectangular image according to the distribution of black pixels if the character shape determination part 8 returns a matching determination; and a character recognition processing part 12 for character-recognizing the character pattern of the image processed by the frame removal part 9.
