To provide a method for manufacturing a honeycomb structure that is an aggregate of a plurality of segments, wherein the plurality of segments are firmly joined to each other, thereby preventing cracking or separation of the honeycomb structure, even when used at elevated temperatures.
The manufacturing method comprises: a molding step of carrying out extrusion molding of a ceramic material that becomes a conductive ceramic sintered compact, thereby molding 10g of a segment molded product that has the honeycomb structure equipped with a plurality of cells partitioned by partitions extending and lined up in a single axial direction; a joining step of obtaining 15g of a joined body wherein the plurality of segment molded products are joined in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction by 11g of an unfired joint material that is formed from the ceramic material that becomes the conductive ceramic sintered compact and has no honeycomb structure; and a firing step of firing the joined body, thereby obtaining a sintered compact wherein a segment sintered part produced through sintering of the segment molded product is unified with a joint material sintered part produced through sintering of the joint material through sintering.
