To provide a honeycomb structure that can effectively prevent its damage resulting from its melting caused by the overheating arising in the operation (regeneration) of combusting and removing particulate matter collected thereby.
The honeycomb structure 100 includes a plurality of honeycomb segments 10 each comprising a plurality of separation walls 3 demarcating and forming a plurality of cells 2, of which a plurality of first cells 2a each opening at one end 8 and plugged at the other end 9 and a plurality of second cells 2b each plugged at one end 8 and opening at the other end 9 are alternately disposed one after the other, with the opposing side faces of the plurality of the honeycomb segments 10 mutually bonded by a bonding member 14, and with the thickness (Tv) of each of the separation walls 3Y disposed along one direction (Y direction) being greater than the thickness (Th) of each of the separation walls 3X disposed along the other direction (X direction) intersecting the one direction at right angles, on a cross section intersecting the direction of the center axis thereof at right angles (namely a cross section vertical to the axial direction of the cells 2) in at least one honeycomb segment 10a.
