Abstract:

To provide a porous carbon material used as an electrode material and exhibiting desired performance.

The porous carbon material is produced by activating a carbon material having an average outer size of 10-100 nm, wherein the summation of the pore volumes of pores having a pore diameter of 0.5-5 nm measured by a nitrogen adsorption method is ≥15% of the total pore volume. The summation of the pore volumes of the pores having a pore diameter of 0.5-5 nm is also preferably ≥0.06 cm3/g. Such a porous carbon material can easily be obtained by mixing a carbon material with 3-5 times (by weight) as much alkali agent as the carbon material and carrying out alkali activation at 700-900°C.
