To provide an imaging apparatus capable of performing an AF anywhere in an imaging area in a live view mode, and which is excellent in focusing accuracy and focusing speed.
The digital camera is configured to perform a phase difference AF with reference to the imaging area of an imaging device 6 in the live view mode, and perform a contrast AF with reference to an AF frame set in the imaging area by using a result obtained by the phase difference AF and information on the position of a photographic lens 3.
