To provide a fuel cell which suppresses such a trouble as an increase in the friction of an aligning means and allows load applying work to be carried out smoothly against a cell stack by a load adjusting screw.
The fuel cell includes an end plate disposed on the exterior in the stacking direction of a cell stack, and a spring box 27 which is disposed on the end plate side of the cell stack and adjusts a compressive load applied to the cell stack with the load adjusting screw 50 disposed on the end plate moving along the stacking direction of the cell stack relative to the end plate. The spring box 27 has a projection 28, while the load adjusting screw 50 has a recession 51 to be engaged with the projection 28. The recession 51 has a beveled edge 51a.
