To suppress external noise caused by the operation of a digital control circuit upon capturing an image.
An image capturing apparatus includes: an imaging section 2 for imaging an object by receiving illumination light reflected by the object; a microprocessor (MPU) 1 provided with an operational mode for acquiring imaging data from the imaging section 2, while generating dynamic clocks and controlling the imaging of the imaging section 2 by performing calculation based on the dynamic clocks, and a reduced power consumption mode for suspending generation of the operational clocks so as to suspend the calculation based on the operational clocks; a light quantity decision means for receiving illumination light and determining whether the received and accumulated quantity of light has exceeded a fiducial point; and a switching means 4 for applying interruption to the MPU1 when it is determined by the light quantity decision means that the quantity of light accumulated has exceeded the fiducial point. The MPU1 shifts to the reduced power consumption mode after directing the start of imaging to the imaging section 2 in the operational mode, then it returns to the operational mode by the interruption, and directs the suspension of the imaging to the imaging section 2.
