An input image (Din) is magnified to output a first magnified image (D2A)(2A), and a high-frequency component image (D1) of the input image (Din) is magnified to output a second magnified image (D2B)(2B). A high-frequency component of the second magnified image (D2B) is extracted to output a first intermediate image (D32A)(32A), and a second intermediate image (D32B) obtained by performing nonlinear processing on the second magnified image (D2B) is outputted (30). The device includes at least one of a first frequency component image correction means (33A) which outputs a third intermediate image (D33A) based on the second magnified image (D2B) and the first intermediate image (D32A), and a second high-frequency component image correction means (33B) which outputs a fourth intermediate image (D33B) based on the second magnified image (D2B) and the second intermediate image (D32B).
