To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of further surely determining rated power of a lamp by controlling a rising characteristic of a lamp voltage in lamp determination to prevent it from being remarkably changed by reducing dispersion factors due to difference between an initial start and a restart.
The device includes a power conversion circuit for converting power from a D.C. power source to supply the power to a high-voltage discharge lamp, and a lighting control circuit for controlling supply power of the power conversion circuit, and is structured to use a plurality of types of high-voltage discharge lamps as load targets to subject the high-voltage discharge lamps to rated lighting by determining the types of the high-voltage discharge lamps after powering on. The device has a timer setting a predetermined standby time until power input to the discharge lamp is started. The longer the power-off time from the previous power shutdown to power input at the present time, the shorter the standby time is, and the more the output power in lighting increases, the longer the standby time is set.
