To provide an electronic camera that picks up an optical image at a shutter speed and an imaging timing suitable for panning.
The electronic camera includes: an imaging section 10 which causes an imaging element 8 to capture an optical image by an optical system 1 to produce an image signal based on the optical image; an analysis section 23 for calculating a moving amount of the image within an imaging screen on the basis of the image signal; a determination section 24 for detecting a moving subject moving within the imaging screen on the basis of the moving amount of the image within the imaging screen calculated by the analysis section and calculating at least either the number of detected moving subjects or an image region size; and a control signal generation section 25 for calculating an exposure time of the imaging element on the basis of a calculation result calculated by the determination section and controlling the imaging section to capture the optical image within the calculated exposure time.
