To provide a digital camera configured such that a shutter curtain is not damaged easily even when an interchangeable lens is detached, and to provide a method of controlling the digital camera.

The digital camera to which the interchangeable lens 100 is detachably attached includes: an imaging device 221 capturing subject luminous flux made incident through the interchangeable lens 100; and an openable/closable shutter 213 arranged between the interchangeable lens 100 and the imaging device 221. In response to operation of a power switch 284 (#25), the digital camera is shifted to a low power consumption state from an operation state (#29), and also the shutter 213 is set to a closed state (#27). When detaching operation of the interchangeable lens 100 is performed in the low power consumption state, the digital camera is shifted to the operation state (#31), and the shutter 213 is set to an opened state (#33).
